Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese Healing Art.  The client lays fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner performs a series of hand positions on or above the body.  It is very much like a gentle laying on of hands.  Universal or Divine energy passes through the practitioner to the client.  The practitioner is simply a channel or a bridge between the Universal Energy and the client and their own desire to heal.

Reiki ~ pronounced “Ray-Key” comes from two Japanese words. Meaning “Universal Life Force Energy”.

Rei ~ meaning “the flow of universal wisdom”.

Ki ~ meaning “vital life force” and has many different names. A few of the names include Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Mana in Hawaiian.  Ki is the energy that flows through you.

What to expect during a Reiki Session:

During a Reiki session the client lays fully clothed on a massage table as the Reiki practitioner works as a channel for Universal Life Force Energy.  The energy is transferred to the client via a combination of gentle hands on touch and off the body hand movements.  Each individual’s experiences are different. Some experience noticeable healing (relief from pain), have spiritual experiences, or fill a sense of relaxation and a sense of peace.

How can Reiki Help Me?

~Reiki is a stress reduction technique that heals through the relaxation response.  It is like an assisted meditation that puts you into an “alpha state”.  Science has proven that this is the state where healing takes place.  In an alpha state, endorphins are released in the brain for a natural calming and healing effect.  Endorphins encourage the growth of new cells.  By creating deep relaxation, Reiki allows the wisdom of the body to heal itself.

Benefits of Reiki Include Assisting in:

  • Placing the individual into a calm and relaxing state
  • Reducing or relieving stress and tension
  • Helps to relieve both physical and emotional pain
  • Relief of fear, anxiety, frustration and anger
  • Acceleration of healing

  • Cleansing of toxins in the body
  • Releasing of endorphins in the brain for a natural healing and calming effect
  • Releasing of energy blockages, balances the chakras, and recharges realigns and rebalances the entire energy field

******  Reiki is not a substitute for traditional medical care. Reiki can be a wonderful compliment to an already existing medical  plan.  Reiki can be used as a an individual method for obtaining and maintaining health and general wellness.

History of Reiki:

Dr. Mikao Usui, or Usui Sensei as he is called by his students in Japan, is the founder of the Usui System of Reiki.  He was born August 15th, 1865 in the village of Yago in Yamagata district of Gifu prefecture, Japan.  Usui Sensei had an avid interest in learning and worked hard at his studies. He traveled to Europe and China studying medicine, psychology and religion.

In March, 1922 Usui’s personal and business life was failing.  As a sensitive spiritual, Usui Sensei went to Mt. Kurama to study and meditate with Isyu Guo.  Mt Kumara is known to have power spots and a small water fall for meditation.  He was not seeking to discover a method for healing, but to solve his personal problems.  It was while on Mt. Kurama that the great Reiki energy entered his crown chakra and he was given the information that we will have the ability to help others heal through allowing the Universal Energy to flow through us and our hands to ourselves and others.

Accepting the responsibility to practice and teach this new gift, Usui Sensei created the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkkai and also opened a Reiki clinic.

Additional information and description of how Dr. Usui discovered and developed Reiki can be found in “The Healing Touch” by William Lee Rand.
